IMPACT 2-1-1 among largest 2-1-1 providers

by Vickie Boneck, Director of Marketing & Communications

IMPACT 2-1-1 ranks among the busiest 2-1-1 call centers in the nation, helping Wisconsin boast the 11th largest system overall. In 2014, IMPACT 2-1-1 received 154,578 requests for assistance including calls, texts and online chat sessions; this accounted for 58 percent of the state’s call volume. An additional 99,518 searches of our online resource database were conducted by individuals on their own. See the full report of the Top 25 2-1-1 providers in 2014 here

Over 285 million Americans (91% of the population) are covered by 2-1-1 services which connect people in need to family, health and social services. Thirty nine states – including Wisconsin - plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico enjoy 100% coverage.

211 Wisconsin has designated IMPACT to be the regional service provider covering Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, Washington, Ozaukee, Jefferson, Dodge and Walworth counties. During times of personal crisis or community disaster the free, confidential helpline makes it easy for residents to get connected to information and assistance. Clients connect with trained community resource specialists by:

  • dialing 2-1-1 or toll-free 1-866-211-3380
  • texting a ZIP code to TXT-211 [898-211]
  • initiating an online chat or searching the online resource database at

IMPACT 2-1-1 is one of the best examples of a public/private partnership in Wisconsin. Operations are funded largely through support from local United Ways in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, Washington, Jefferson and Walworth counties; as well as Milwaukee County government and the Waukesha County Department of Health and Human Services. Corporate, private and community foundations, as well as individual donors, ensure that IMPACT 2-1-1 is able to meet the increasing need.

The call centers within Wisconsin and across the country operate according to standards set forth by the Alliance of Information & Referral Systems; and all 2-1-1s are linked to allow for cross coverage during disasters, emergencies, or times of exceptionally high volume.
