services in order to reduce illness, death, disability, and
cost to society resulting from substance abuse and mental
illnesses.
2) Prevention Online-National Clearinghouse for Alcohol
and Drug Information

A national resource for information about substance abuse
prevention. Offers publications, videos, research information
and curriculum materials-many free of charge.
3) Prevention Resource Center of the Pacific Institute
of Research and Evaluation (PRC)

A focus of The Prevention Research Center (PRC) is to better
understand the social and physical environments that influence
individual behavior that leads to alcohol and drug misuse.
PRC is the only center of fifteen centers sponsored by the
National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)
that specializes in prevention.
4) Search Institute

Search Institute is an independent nonprofit organization
whose mission is to provide leadership, knowledge, and resources
to promote healthy children, youth, and communities. At the
heart of the institute's work is the framework of 40 developmental
assets, which are positive experiences and personal qualities
that young people need to grow up healthy, caring, and responsible.
5) Society for Prevention Research

The Society for Prevention Research is an international organization
focused upon the advancement of science-based prevention programs
and policies through practical research.
6) Wisconsin Clearinghouse for Prevention Resources

As the Prevention Resource Center for Wisconsin, the Clearinghouse
provides a wealth of free materials, publishes a quarterly
newsletter, provides technical assistance and works on policy
issues. WCH is a nonprofit publishing house as well, developing
and selling high quality low-cost prevention materials nationwide.
7) Alliance for Wisconsin Youth

A program of the Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services, the Alliance for Wisconsin Youth
supports and enhances the capacity of community coalitions in their substance abuse prevention and youth
development efforts to ensure all of our state’s young people grow up in positive and nurturing
environments. The alliance provides support to member coalitions through member sharing,
technical assistance, training, information dissemination, and direct funding.
